Are you starting to feel SAD? (Seasonal Affective Disorder)

The clocks going back means shorter days, which means even less sunlight!  This can have an adverse effect on people ‘of colour’ because the pigmentation in our skin (known as MELANIN) needs the sun to function properly.  When we don’t get enough sunlight we can lack energy, feel lethargic, unmotivated, and suffer from a form of depression known as SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), which is caused by a lack of natural sunlight.

We need the sun!

Symptoms of SAD can include:

  • A persistent low mood
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in normal everyday activities
  • Irritability
  • Feelings of despair, guilt and worthlessness
  • Feeling lethargic (lacking in energy) and sleepy during the day
  • Going to bed much earlier than normal yet finding it hard to get up in the morning
  • Comfort eating and gaining weight

The main treatments offered by the NHS are:

  • Getting as much natural sunlight as possible, exercising regularly and managing your stress levels
  • Light Therapy – where a special lamp called a light box is used to simulate exposure to sunlight
  • talking therapies, such cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or counselling
  • antidepressant medication such as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs)

Many of us are mis-diagnosed with depression and are prescribed SSRIs, instead of seeking a more natural remedy.  I healed myself from SAD using COLOUR THERAPY, which isn’t even mentioned on the NHS website!

In the winter of 2009 I intuitively painted some bright, colourful paintings, and noticed that I wasn’t getting my usual symptoms; this led me to study the effect of colours on the mind and emotions, known as Colour Therapy.  Last year I facilitated a number of workshops showing others how to introduce more colour into their life to help them feel happy, which I’ve now incorporated into The Self Love Retreat.  This is where I meet small groups of women in the Gambia for a  7 day holiday in the sun, with 5 days of Self-nurturing workshops, including one day of pampering!

Join me at Katakata on Sunday 5th November 2-5pm for a Taster Workshop

Journey of a Sister is the story of a young woman raised in the ‘faith’, who reaches a point where she begins to question what she was taught to believe.  She writes God a fearless letter, asking all the questions the church couldn’t answer, and ends it by asking for “the Truth!”.  Join Suzanne on her quest for “the Truth!” about sex before marriage, the creative power of her thoughts, her African ancestry, and the history of the religion she had been indoctrinated into!  It is a beautiful Black Love story that breaks some unspoken taboos in a thought-provoking yet enlightening way that thousands of women and men can relate to, download Years 1-11 FREE!

If you’re free, join me at Hackney Central Library, 1 Reading Lane E8 (opposite Hackney Empire) on Wednesday 6th September from 5.30-7.30pm to discuss the topics raised in the story.  You can also get the paperback which includes Years 12 & 13  for just £5.00 – HALF PRICE!  (To avoid queuing to get your book signed on the day, reserve it when you book your free ticket)

I will also be paving the way for two authors who will be joining me from the USA to take part in the Kings and Queens Book Tour from 1-8th October:

King Kevin Dorival is author of ‘7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire‘ (I wrote the Foreword), and TC Carrier is author of ‘The Secret Science of Black Male and Female Sex‘.  In Year 8 of ‘Journey of a Sister‘  I ‘channelled’ a scene where the couple performed their first sex ritual.  TC’s book explains the science behind these rituals!  It’s no wonder religion is used to suppress our sexual energy – this is where our power lies!  Our ancestors built great civilizations by harnessing their sexual energy, which is a powerful creative force.  Join us on the Kings & Queens Book Tour to explore how we can become great again, and rebuild our empires!

For full details about the tour and to book your tickets (some are free) see my previous blog post (<<click on this link)

Join us on the Kings and Queens Book Tour (London) 1-8 Oct!

Black History Month is an opportunity to explore how our past has affected the way we relate to each other today, and what we can do to heal, so that we can reclaim our greatness!  Our ancestors built great civilizations, and the key to us rebuilding our empires is buried in our DNA.  How did they do it?  It was connected with their sexual energy. In today’s society, we are taught to dissipate our sexual energy, instead of harnessing this powerful creative force.

I have invited two authors from the USA to join me on the Kings and Queens Book Tour, (1-8 Oct), which will cover North, South, East and West London!

King Kevin Dorival is author of ‘7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire‘ (I wrote the Foreword), and TC Carrier is author of ‘The Secret Science of Black Male and Female Sex‘.   Their books compliment my Self-help novel ‘Journey of a Sister‘, and all 3 books will help YOU on your own journey of Self-discovery and Self-healing, and help you re-member your power as a melanin-rich being!

What does it mean to be a King or a Queen? (How can you tell if you are one)  How do you become one? (if you’re not already) What TYPE of Queen are you?  (so you can attract the right type of King), What happens when a King finds a Queen?  (What can they achieve together)

Come and find out in a series of Book Signing & Discussion Events, Workshops, and Lectures!  (This will also be an opportunity to meet other Kings and Queens, or King and Queens in the making).  The schedule is as follows:

Sunday 1st Oct, 146 Great Queen Street, Blackfriars EC1V 1-3pm (FREE – donations welcome)

Join us at the Launch of the Kings & Queens Book Tour, where you’ll be able to meet both authors for the first time – and myself of course! I will be interviewing King Kevin and TC Carrier, and this will also be your opportunity to ask them any questions!  The topic of discussion will be ‘What Does it Mean to be a King or a Queen?‘  Come and join in the discussion! Monies cannot be collected at the venue, so if you would like to make a contribution to the Kings & Queens Book Tour, please do so when you  >> Book your tickets here <<  (will go towards travel, accommodation, meals, filming, photography, marketing etc.)

Straight after this event, both authors will be on the Panel at the Kings and Queens United relationship event from 4-7pm (same venue), your ticket includes a meal!  For more info and to book >> click on this link <<

Monday 2nd Oct 5-7.30pm, Hackney Central Library, E8  (FREE – donations welcome)

Join us for a Book Signing & Discussion Event of ‘7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire‘ and ‘The Secret Science of Black Male and Female Sex‘.  Order your copies by clicking on the links, read them in advance, so you can join in the discussion!  >> Reserve your free ticket  << (booking essential, consider making a donation to the Kings & Queens Book Tour)

Wednesday 4th Oct 5.30-7.30pm, Marcus Garvey Library, Tottenham N15 (FREE, donations welcome)

This event is focused on King Kevin and TC Carrier’s other books ‘Courage to Believe‘, and ‘Black Son Rising; Re-awakening the Warrior DNA in Black Men.  This session is ideal for men and youth, not to say queens can’t attend! (especially if you’re raising princes).  Both Kevin and TC are youth mentors in the USA,  and are keen to connect with the youth in our community, especially those who are struggling with the system.  It would be a good idea to purchase your books online and read them before the session; If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can borrow both e-books from their lending library FREE!   Order the paperbacks in advance, read them so you can join in the discussion, and they’ll sign them for you on the day!

Thursday 5th Oct 2-5pm, 6-9pm, Ankh Wellbeing Centre, W12 (£15-£25)

These are more intimate workshops with each author; from 2-5pm join King Kevin in a Workshop to identify What Type of Queen Are You?  Knowing your Queen Type will help you can attract the right type of King! Then between 6-9pm TC Carrier will be doing a Lecture on his book ‘The Secret Science of Black Male & Female Sex‘.

The Ankh Wellbeing Centre will be serving delicious vegan food, which you can purchase in the break.

If you work full time, consider booking the afternoon off work so you can attend both sessions!  Save £5 when you book both, only £25! (instead of £30).  >> Book here <<

Friday 6th Oct 6-8.30pm, Chestnuts Community Centre, N15  (£5 in advance, £7 otd)

In conjunction with Find Your Voice (bro Dougie from SLR radio), this evening is an open Discussion on the topic ‘What Can a King and Queen Achieve Together?‘  We will be exploring how our ancestors built great civilizations, and what we need to do to reclaim our greatness!  Surprisingly, within all the Black ‘conscious’ organizations I encountered in our commUNITY, none of them were doing this! >>  Book your tickets here <<  All our books will be on sale, but you are advised to purchase online so you can be more informed to join in the discussion! (See links to purchase books below)

Saturday 7th Oct 2-9pm @ Maat Centre, Tottenham N17 (£5-£8)

This is a full day event which includes a Youth Session from 2-4pm, Entertainment from 5-6pm, Book Signing & Discussions from 6-9pm, and Networking!

2-4pm Youth Session: Courage to Believe/Black Son Rising (£5 in adv, £7 otd)

We are inviting community organizations who work with our youth (especially those being let down by the system) to bring them along.  Both TC Carrier and Kevin Dorival are youth mentors in the USA, and are keen to have an opportunity to mentor our youth in the UK too!  What strategy should our youth be using to vent their frustration, instead of taking it out on each other? The entry fee is to cover the cost of the venue; if you are a black business or entrepreneur and would like to sponsor (pay for) our youth to attend this event, please contact me or the organisations to pay for them to attend, or just go to the Eventbrite page and pay, and donate them to the organization of your choice, such as Manhood Academy, Black Child Agenda, or Mentor Kings.

6-9pm Book Signings, Discussion & Entertainment! (£5 in advance, £7 otd)

The topic for this evening is ‘When Kings Meet Queens!

What happens when a brother and a sister unite in a high state of consciousness?  How do we achieve this state?  What is blocking our progress as a commUNITY?  How can we heal the damage caused to our DNA through slavery and colonialism?  Come and discuss!

Between 5-6pm there will be entertainment (including poetry by myself, dance from Julius of StepFreeDance, and music), food and drinks will be on sale, and you can also get your books signed!  Are you a King looking for your Queen? This will also be a great networking opportunity to meet other Kings and Queens (or Kings and Queens in the making)  >>  Book your tickets here <<

**There are a few stalls available for £20 each, visit the same link above to reserve yours**

Sunday 8th October 5-7.30pm @ Brixton Library, SW9 (£5 in advance, £7 otd)

Topic: Rebuilding Our Empires

This event is the culmination of the whole tour, and is your last opportunity to meet King Kevin and TC Carrier before they head back to the USA – if you’ve read their books you will surely want to meet them and get your books signed, if you haven’t done already!  We will have an open discussion on ‘How do we begin to rebuild our empires?‘ (our relationships, family and commUNITY).  How do we reclaim our rightful position in society?  What needs to change, for this to happen?

We will also be discussing how we can carry on the work once the book tour is over, and how YOU can get involved!  There will also be giveaways, prizes, and lots of interactive discussion!

It costs £70 per hour to hire Brixton Library (with a discount!).  I’ve kept the ticket prices for each event as low as possible, just so you can attend at least one, and to make sure that you can still get the books!  This is not a profit-making venture, but something I’ve put together to help us as a commUNITY to heal.

Purchase your books in advance and read them before the tour, so that you can join in the discussions from an informed perspective; they will only have a limited amount of books with them, so purchase your book online, and they will sign it for you at the events!

Review: African American Research Library Book Festival

I just got back from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where I took part in the African American Research Library & Cultural Centre‘s Annual Book Festival, courtesy of King Kevin Dorival!

The building itself was amazing; the equivalent of The Marcus Garvey Library, The Black Cultural Archives, and the Bernie Grant Arts Centre all under one roof! The library also has a state-of-the-art Theatre, and Black History Museum.
On Friday we were taken on a tour of the building by Essy, the Director. We were able to see some of the African artefacts they had accumulated, including some which belonged to the founder of the library, Samuel F. Morrison.
I also got to interview Samuel F. Morrison in the flesh! He is the visionary behind the library, who raised the $60,000,000 needed to build it. It was great to see that they had created a legacy for him while he’s still alive!
Later that evening I was one of the authors who featured in ‘An Evening with the Literary Stars‘, an exclusive evening where we got to pitch our books to the audience for 5 minutes each.
The following day was open to the public; I was on the Romance Panel with two other authors:
We had a lively discussion and afterwards, audience participants purchased their signed copies of our books!  (King Kevin Dorival was also on the panel).

The Kings are Coming!

King Kevin will be coming to London for the Kings & Queens Book Tour taking place on the 1-8th October.  We will be focusing on his newly-released book ‘7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire‘ (I wrote the Foreword).
King Kevin has informed me that  he’ll be on the look-out for his Queen, so ladies, read his book!

I managed to interview King Kevin before I came back to London:

TC Carrier, author of ‘The Secret Science of Black Male and Female Sex‘ is also coming to London to take part in the Kings & Queens Book Tour!
The reason I’ve invited  both King Kevin and TC Carrier to London to take part in the Kings & Queens Book Tour is because both their books compliment my Self-help romance novel ‘Journey of a Sister‘.  All 3 books will really help you on your own journey of Self-discovery!
Tickets will also go on sale shortly, and you’re advised to get yours early – it’s going to be SOLD OUT! (don’t say you weren’t warned!)
The tour will include Book Signing & Discussion Events as well as Workshops; ‘What Type of Queen Are You?‘ ‘What is Spiritual Sex?‘ Come and find out!  Order your books and read them in advance, so you can join in the discussions!

No Ordinary Woman Chat Show Interview

NOWLast October I attended an event where I met Caz Mac, who was in the process of setting up the No Ordinary Woman Chat Show YouTube Channel.  She would be interviewing a number of ordinary women doing extraodinary things! I gave her a signed copy of ‘Journey of a Sister‘ to read.  Some time later she contacted me really excited, having just finished reading the book, and invited me for an interview!  We had a good connection because she identified with a lot of what I’d written about.  In this interview I share my inspiration behind writing both books, but it’s mainly focused on the one she read.  The video launched on the No Ordinary Woman Chat Show YouTube Channel last week, and is available to watch NOW! (No Ordinary Woman) 🙂

First Video in my series: Why the Black Woman MUST Heal! (HAIR)

I recently became clear about my Purpose: It’s to ‘Help the Black Woman to Heal’ just as I am; mentally, emotionally, and spiritually (including from ancestral trauma). We MUST heal in order to truly love ourselves. And Self Love is the ROOT CAUSE of many of our issues, especially our relationships!  It’s important for us to heal for a number of reasons; we are the core of our commUNITY. We are the ones raising the next generation. We are the core of the family. If we don’t re-build our family structures by re-building our relationships with our MEN, we cannot re-build our commUNITY!

This is the first video in my series ‘Why the Black Woman MUST Heal!’ which is all about our HAIR:

When we as Black Women ‘RE-MEMBER’ Who We Are, we will naturally develop Self Love, which doesn’t rely on outward appearance, it comes from deep within.

If you would like to join me on this journey of Self-healing and Self-discovery, start by reading my Self-help novel ‘Journey of a Sister’ from Year One FREE!  In it  shared everything I discovered after asking God for “the Truth!” in a beautiful, Black Love story format!

If you identify with the topics raised in it, consider joining me on our Self-healing journey, by coming on The Self Love Retreat in the Gambia in November or December (subsequent dates may follow). I’ve organized for us to spend 7 days at the Healthy Ways Foundation, with authors of the cookbook ‘Spicy Tasty Vegan Cuisine’, Dr Joe Gregory and Naasira Angeela Bledsoe. Not only are they our hosts, they have a wealth of experience regarding relationships, healthy eating, and much more to share with us! There are only 6 places on each Retreat, to ensure individual attention. (You can choose either from the first two weeks in November, or the first two weeks in December, 12 women each month)

If you would like more information about The Self Love Retreat come to the Taster Workshop on Saturday 1st July being held at Intuition House, Borough, South London (right next to Borough High Street station); the cost is just £25 which includes a FREE copy of my Self-help novel ‘Journey of a Sister’, and if you decide to sign upon the day, the cost of the workshop (£25) will be deducted from the price of the Retreat! (£100 deposit will secure your place, the Retreat is priced at an introductory price of just £599!).

If you are unable to attend the Taster Workshop on July 1st but are interested in joining me on The Self Love Retreat, email me: cezanne@journeyofasister.com, and I will set up a Skype call to share the information!

All the topics covered in my video series ‘Why the Black Woman MUST Heal‘ are raised in my Self-help novel.  Order your personally signed paperback for just £9.99 with FREE delivery in the UK!

Today is Black Woman Heal Day!

Today is officially Black Woman Heal Day, founded by Lilada Gee in 2015.  The aim is to organise events, write blogs, and create forums where sisters can get information, share stories, and empower each other.

I would have liked to organise an event this year, but I’m attending the Woman to Woman Conference today, so I’ve decided to write a blog instead, with the aim of organizing an event next year…

Why The Black Woman MUST Heal:

The Black Womban is the Original Woman, the ‘Mother of All Nations’.

It has been scientifically proven that the oldest human remains is of a Black Womban.

She carries the original gene: Mitochondria DNA.  Men do not carry this gene, it can only be transferred from mother to child, which is where I believe the word inHERitance comes from! (I’ve covered the topic of MDNA in Year 8 of my Self-help novel ‘Journey of a Sister’)

There is a secret war against the Black Womban; to prevent her from ‘re-membering’ who she is, to degrade her image (and that of her male counterpart) in order to destroy her family, and ultimately her whole commUNITY.

The Black Womban is the core of her community; in order to heal our community, the Black Womban MUST heal – for the sake of the next generation!

The Black Womban, being the Mother of All Nations, is pow-HER-full!  But we have forgotten our power.  Many of us have issues to do with our womb, relating to the foods we eat, the products we put on our skin and hair, and the toxic men we sleep with.  In order to heal, we must return to nature!  In order to heal our relationships, we must begin by healing ourselves, starting with Self Love!

Self Love A3 Poem

Ways we can heal:

  • Get in touch with our True Self, by spending time alone, sitting in the Silence, meditating, praying, taking notes.
  • Read (and implement) Self-help books, audios and videos that help us return to our natural state of being.
  • Get into nature at least twice a week
  • Use natural skin and hair care products (these sink into your bloodstream!)
  • Grow natural! (There’s a section in my novel which will help you innerstand why this is important)
  • Exercise your mind and body daily
  • Eat foods provided by Mother Nature
  • Learn about the power of your yoni and womb (covered in Year 8 of ‘Journey of a Sister’)

In a society which has turned everything upside down, where the truth is now a lie, and a lie is now the truth, it doesn’t take much to realize why the Black Woman and her male counterpart is under such attack.  Yet WE have the power to turn everything the right way around again!  We are POW-HER-FULL!

The source of our power is in our EMOTIONS and our INTUITION.  Yet if we continue operating in our masculine energy instead of our feminine energy, we will never be able to tap into our full pow-HER.  We will never take our rightful position on this planet , next to our Black Man, reigning side by side.

As melanin-rich people, we are naturally spiritual, and naturally sexual.

Religion has played a big part in separating sex from spirituality, but in this time we MUST heal, and put the two back together again.  I have gone into much more detail about this in my novel, preview Year One FREE! (click on link to open)

The Black Butterfly Effect

‘The Black Butterfly Effect’ is a process of transforming your MIND, in order to transform your LIFE!

Black Butterfly Original

When I painted ‘Black Butterfly’ in 2009, I had just started learning how to meditate in order to control my negative thinking patterns (I was in a deep state of meditation when I painted it!).  I was also studying Universal Laws; that your thoughts go out into the universe and leave an impression.  The more you have the same thought, the deeper the impression becomes.  These thoughts are eventually reflected back to you as your life (good or bad).

As a result of learning this, I began to really focus on managing my thoughts, and what I wanted to create (as opposed to what I didn’t want).

I wrote my poem ‘The Black Butterfly Effect’ in 2012 while going through a ‘Mind Fast’.  The poem uses the imagery of a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, to explain the process of transforming your mind:

First, you must protect your subconscious mind from all negative influences that do not support your vision; then you must ‘go within’ and get clear about what you want to create.  As you’re going through this process you’ll find it difficult, because your mind and body are used to doing things a different way.  But the more you practice your new way of thinking, your mind and body will eventually catch up!

In January I completed The 30 Day Mind Detox in which I ‘cocooned’ myself from the outside world and focused on going within and getting really clear on what I wanted to achieve this year, and the years ahead.  Once I was clear, I created a Vision Board based upon my set intentions.  Already, things have started to MANifest!  I will share more about this later on this year, but for now, if you’d like to start the process of transforming your mind, begin by reading my Self-help novel ‘Journey of a Sister’ (for brothers too!).  The main character goes through a complete transformation; of her mind, her relationship, and her Self-identity.

I’ve used the Adinkra symbol ‘Sesa wo Suban’ throughout the book, as it is the symbol of transformation:

Adinkra Symbol for Transformation

Are you ready to Transform?

Join Suzanne on her transformational quest for “The Truth!” about sex before marriage, the creative power of her thoughts, her African ancestry, and the history of the religion she had been indoctrinated into!    It includes her hair journey, the transformation of her relationship, and discovering True Love!  It is a beautiful Black Love story with lots of wisdom, which thousands of women and men can relate to. Start the journey by reading Year One FREE!
