My Presentation: Let’s Build a Village! (Gambia)

Upon my return from nearly 4 months in the Gambia, I hosted an event in Tottenham, North  London, where I shared my vision for a Retreat Home overlooking the sea, and a commUNITY Village, for those of us who wish to return to our Motherland. Here’s part of it:

While I was in the Gambia facilitating The Self❤Love Retreat (Dec to March), I came across some land which fulfilled a vision I’ve had for years, of having a Retreat Home overlooking the sea, with a VILLAGE nearby! Within a short space of time, I was taken to the Akala of the clan who own the land; they liked the idea of us building a village for returnees, and of us integrating with the locals; my idea of having a Retreat Home was to provide a safe space for the Black Woman to heal (not excluding the Black Man and child). I explained in my Presentation that she is the core of the family, and the family is the core of the commUNITY, so for our commUNITY to heal, the Black Woman MUST Heal!

During the process of “breaking them in”, our enslaved ancestors were subjected to a brutal form of brainwashing that also altered their DNA structure. This has been passed down from one generation to the next, so to fully comprehend the dysfunction within our community today, we need to get to the ROOT CAUSE of our issues, that is, we need to look at the CAUSE, not the effect, and the cause is buried deep in our subconscious minds.

In my Presentation, I explained that in the film ‘Get Out’, the ‘sunken place’ is his subconscious mind, and in ‘The Black Panther’, there are two scenes where they buried T’Challa and Killmonger in order for them to visit the ancestral plane, which was symbolic of them going into their subconscious.

Over the past year, I’ve been introduced to plants and herbs provided by Mother Nature that help to alter your state of consciousness, and connect you with the spirit world. I explained in my presentation, that while on a mushroom ‘trip’ last year, I got the message: ‘DNA REPAIR’. Our ancestral mothers are ready and on hand to help us heal, and some of the techniques that will be used are unconventional and frowned upon by modern medicine, yet these are things Mother Nature has provided for our healing. My work specifically centres around the Black Womban healing, because when she heals, our whole commUNITY will heal! Are you truly ready to heal?

Over the past 15 years I’ve been on my own Self-healing journey; this included working with Positive Affirmations to re-program my mind, forgiving those who I felt wronged me, un-indoctrinating my Self from religion, and learning to love myself unconditionally (this is an ongoing journey).

My Self-healing journey has been expressed through my books, art and poetry, yet I reached a point where I felt I couldn’t do anything more for myself – and I still wasn’t fully healed!  I still felt held back in certain areas of my life, for example, I’m still not in a loving relationship with my soulmate, even though my work is centred around building sustainable Black relationships!

It was like peeling away layers of an onion; every time I unpeeled one layer (e.g. religion) there was something else I had to deal with underneath. The Positive Affirmations worked for some things, but not others. For instance, they worked really well to help me build confidence and self esteem, which helped me to unblock as a writer and artist, but there were other blocks that I just couldn’t seem to shift. I asked my Higher Self to reveal what I needed, which is when I came to the realization that some of the blocks were buried so deep in my subconscious, I couldn’t get to them on a conscious level; I had to go into an altered state of consciousness to reach them.

Meditation helped to quiet my mind and control my negative thinking patterns, which also helped me heal from depression. I focused on thinking positively and keeping myself in a ‘positive state of bliss’. Yet none of these things seemed to get to the ROOT CAUSE of my issues.

Then last year, I met a woman who put me in an altered state of consciousness (using weed oil), and while I was in a ‘trance’, it felt like I was receiving a spiritual download, which seemed to be affecting my past, present and future. On another occasion, I took mushrooms with this same young woman, and the message I got from the ‘trip’ was ‘DNA REPAIR’. Through my personal studies, I’ve come to learn that the past, present and future are simultaneous, not linear. If we don’t heal from the trauma of our past, it will keep coming back to haunt our present and future. We are POW-HER-FULL creators, especially womben, because we’re more emotional, and our emotions act like FUEL on our thoughts.

My work is to help the Black Womban to heal, because when she heals, our relationships heal, our families heal, and our families are what make up our commUNITY.  I wrote this poem the morning after watching the film ‘Sankofa’, and dedicated it to those still suffering the psychological effects of the enslavement of our ancestors, handed down to us genetically through our DNA:

Make a contribution to the Retreat Home Fund so we can heal TOGETHER!

I’m a visionary; it’s my job to come up with the ideas and share them with my commUNITY, but it’s our COLLECTIVE job to bring the ideas to fruition!  I’ve now found a lovely 6 bed house in Gunjur for us to rent until our own Retreat Home is built.  I need to raise £10,000 by November for the rent and to furnish it,   Make your contribution here.

I’m also fundraising to purchase land to build our own Retreat Home, And any surplus will go towards that project.

We’re also building a VILLAGE near the Retreat Home, so if you’ve been thinking about leaving the UK or USA and like the idea of living in a village commUNITY,  join us on the Let’s Build a Village Retreat 20-29 November, or 17-24 December.

I showed some photos of the dome-shaped round homes we are thinking of building in the village, and Galactic Clyde (a builder and carpenter who also studies sacred geometry) explained the spiritual benefits of living in such homes instead of square ones:

There are 30 homes available to buy; at the Presentation 17 people expressed an interest in being part of the Village, 5 indicated that they are ready to pay their £3,000 deposit to secure their home, and 11 signed up to join us on the  ‘Let’s Build a Village’ Retreat20-29th November 2018.  You’ll have the opportunity to see the land, meet potential neighbours, and plan how our village will be laid out.  If you’d like to be part of our village send me an message below.

(Profits from the Retreat Home will help to build and maintain the village)

Galactic Clyde also builds labyrinths, and he also explained the benefits of walking the labyrinth regularly; we also plan to build a labyrinth on the land, which will form part of our Retreats.

Galactic Clyde has built a labyrinth in a park in East London (Hackney Filter Beds), and we will be taking a walk on the labyrinth this Saturday 19th May between 2-6pm, if you’d like to join us, send me a message!

It takes a VILLAGE to raise a child, let’s do this for our Self, and the sake of future generations!

I’m returning to the Gambia on 22nd May, with part of the funds (hopefully!) to keep the process going, are you in?  When I get back, I’ll organize another event (mid July) to share updates, you can also keep up-to-date via my Instagram and Facebook pages.

Yours faithfully,

Enquiries for the Village Project:

We’re getting the land, and we’re building a Village!

Just before I left the Gambia on the 12th March, some magical things began happening!

I was there to facilitate The Self Love Retreat, but the venues that I used weren’t 100% suitable.  For years, I’ve imagined having my own Retreat Home overlooking the sea, and now  that I was actually doing the Retreats, I realized I needed a Retreat Home of my own, where we could feel more comfortable.

While in the Gambia, I came across some land that was perfect for both the Retreat Home AND a Village; in 2015, I had a premonition that in 5 years time (2020), my people would be FLEEING the UK and USA, and that they would need somewhere to run TO, hence why we need to be building VILLAGES.    My vision was beginning to manifest in real life!

On the way back from seeing the land, we passed a small Guest House, and a woman was sitting on the porch.  She called out “Are you Cezanne?”

Bear in mind that we were in the middle of the bush; this woman recognized me from when she used to live in the UK, and we became acquainted.  Because she and her husband hold high esteem within the village, and because one of her employees happens to be part of the clan who own the land, they are now helping me secure the land, and getting government approval to build on it!  When I first saw the land, I was told that it was ‘TDA land’, meaning the government has reserved it as a Tourist Development Area. But in my spirit, I knew that it was land reserved for US returnees!

(Just beyond the trees in the distance is the beach, where the Retreat Home will be built, the Village will be on this part of the land)

It is with help from our ancestors that I have now been allocated 500 x 200 metres of this land, right by the sea, and I believe that when we ‘show and tell’ that we have made good use of this land, we will be able to get more!  If my premonition is correct, we will need more than this piece that I’ve been allocated; you can see what’s happening to our youth, our men, our families, and our culture from living in Western society.  If we truly wish to heal, we need to remove ourselves from the environment – YOU CANNOT CLEAN DISHES IN DIRTY WATER!

On Saturday 12th May between 2-4pm I’m holding an event in Tottenham, North London, to share my vision for Kai Ci Kurbi Healing Village.  If you’ve been thinking about leaving the UK but don’t have a ‘Get Out’ plan, come and see if this might be for you.  Not everyone will fit into the model for this particular village, which is why we need to be building VILLAGES.  I’m building my tribe, you should be too!  If you would like to attend, email me at cezanne@journeyofasister.com

If you are unable to attend, but would like to know more, still send me an email; the event will be filmed and put on Youtube, I’ll send you the link when it’s up!

Another  magical thing that happened just before I left, was being taken to see this amazing tree in Senegal:

I lit a candle and poured libation to my ancestors, and thanked them for guidance and protection while I go through this process.  When I came out from inside the tree, all the women from the village came to pray for me, it was POW-HER-FULL!

They gave me some of the soil from around the tree, and told me what to do with it.  I know without a shadow of a doubt that I’m being guided to get this land to build our Retreat Home and Kai Ci Kurbi Healing Village.  ‘Kai Ci Kurbi’ means ‘COME HOME’.  Are you ready?

Join us on the next Self Love Retreat 25 May to 3rd June, or our mixed Retreat 21-30 November to see whether you will fit into Kai Ci Kurbi Healing Village – families welcome!

Build Your Own WAKANDA!

I was eager to go and see the film ‘Black Panther’ on my return from the Gambia, but I have to admit, I couldn’t see what all the big fuss was about!

Perhaps, it’s a downfall of having your third eye wide open, but I saw things for what they really were, not all the ‘frills and fancy’.  For instance, TECHNOLOGY is a Western creation, which causes more harm to our Motherland than anywhere else.  For instance, Congo is raped, plundered, and stripped of it’s resources for the coltane needed for our modern mobile phones.

Our true ‘super power’ is NATURE; using the elements of air, fire, water and earth, and calling on our ancestors for help and guidance.

Just as they said in the film, they hide things in plain site, and we still don’t see it.

We spent billions going to see The Black Panther, but where did the profits go?  Did it go to building a Wakanda?  No!  It went into their pockets.

But can we build our own Wakanda?  Yes!

While in the Gambia facilitating The Self Love Retreat, I found the perfect piece of land to build a Retreat Home  (for The Self Love Retreat), and also to build a VILLAGE.  I had the idea to build a village 3 years ago, when I received the premonition that in 5 years time (2020), my people will have to FLEE the UK and USA for their lives, and they will need somewhere to run TO.  Do you have a ‘Get Out’ plan? Also, the next generation of children need somewhere to be raised that is conducive to their mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health, away from Western ideologies.  My personal intention for building a village is so that when my grandchildren start coming, they will be raised in the village!

Why not turn ‘Wakanda’ into reality?

I will be building my own little ‘heaven on earth’, and would love you to join  me!  The land is currently labelled as ‘TDA’ land (Tourist Development Agency), but every time I go there, I feel a pull in my gut that lets me know it’s OUR ancestral land, ready for us to claim!  Are you in?  I’m looking for 50 people to get involved in the Kai Ci Kurbi Village project (Kai Ci Kurbi means ‘Come Home’ in Wollof, one of the main languages spoken in the Gambia), where we will lobby the government for some of the land.  On the beachfront will be the Retreat Home, the village will be behind on the mainland, and behind the village will be farmland for us to grow our own food – you’ve got to see it to believe it!  Why not join me in the Gambia in May to come and see for yourself?  I’ve already started putting things in motion for my part of the land, and if you’ve been thinking about leaving the UK or USA (or Caribbean), you can do the same!

I’m doing an event on Saturday 12th May 2-4pm in Tottenham, North London, to share my vision for Kai Ci Kurbi Healing Village; if you’d like to attend, send me a message below.

Make a contribution to The Self Love Retreat Fund, which will go towards buying the land and building the Retreat Home – everyone who makes a donation will be put on the list to receive subsidized places when the Retreat Home is built!  Plant a seed TODAY for the future you want to see BLOSSOM!

Are you starting to feel SAD? (Seasonal Affective Disorder)

The clocks going back means shorter days, which means even less sunlight!  This can have an adverse effect on people ‘of colour’ because the pigmentation in our skin (known as MELANIN) needs the sun to function properly.  When we don’t get enough sunlight we can lack energy, feel lethargic, unmotivated, and suffer from a form of depression known as SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), which is caused by a lack of natural sunlight.

We need the sun!

Symptoms of SAD can include:

  • A persistent low mood
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in normal everyday activities
  • Irritability
  • Feelings of despair, guilt and worthlessness
  • Feeling lethargic (lacking in energy) and sleepy during the day
  • Going to bed much earlier than normal yet finding it hard to get up in the morning
  • Comfort eating and gaining weight

The main treatments offered by the NHS are:

  • Getting as much natural sunlight as possible, exercising regularly and managing your stress levels
  • Light Therapy – where a special lamp called a light box is used to simulate exposure to sunlight
  • talking therapies, such cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or counselling
  • antidepressant medication such as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs)

Many of us are mis-diagnosed with depression and are prescribed SSRIs, instead of seeking a more natural remedy.  I healed myself from SAD using COLOUR THERAPY, which isn’t even mentioned on the NHS website!

In the winter of 2009 I intuitively painted some bright, colourful paintings, and noticed that I wasn’t getting my usual symptoms; this led me to study the effect of colours on the mind and emotions, known as Colour Therapy.  Last year I facilitated a number of workshops showing others how to introduce more colour into their life to help them feel happy, which I’ve now incorporated into The Self Love Retreat.  This is where I meet small groups of women in the Gambia for a  7 day holiday in the sun, with 5 days of Self-nurturing workshops, including one day of pampering!

Join me at Katakata on Sunday 5th November 2-5pm for a Taster Workshop

3 of my original paintings (which incorporate Colour Therapy) will be on display at Katakata, 132 Brixton Hill, London SW2 1RS from 2-29th November; join me there on Sunday 5th November at a Taster Workshop for The Self Love Retreat!  I’ll be explaining the colour therapy and symbolism used in my paintings, and also giving you a taster of the workhops we’ll be doing on the Retreat! Join us for a fun afternoon, it’s also my birthday so come and join in the celebrations!   Entry is £15 which includes a vegan lunch, and a signed copy of my Self-help novel ‘Journey of a Sister’, register your attendance by emailing me: cezanne@journeyofasister.com

Unspoken Art Exhibition Private Launch, Thursday 2nd November

If you’re interested in purchasing one of my originals, join us for the Launch on Thursday 2nd November, 6-10pm @ Katakata, 132 Brixton Hill!  It’s FREE, but you must purchase a ticket, get yours here – Prints of my artwork will also be on sale (£10 each), as well as my Self-help novel ‘Journey of a Sister‘, which features my artwork and poetry!  If you didn’t think you could afford an original oil painting, think again!  I’ve greatly reduced the prices! Review of the Big Launch, Join us for the rest of the Tour!

If you missed the Big Launch of the Kings & Queens Book Tour, you really missed out!

I explained why I had invited TC Carrier, author of ‘The Secret Science of Black Male & Female Sex‘ and King Kevin Dorival, author of ‘7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire‘ over from the USA to join me on this tour, and how our books compliment each other’s.

In the first session (1-3pm) myself, TC Carrier and Kevin Dorival answered questions from the audience; not many people had read our books yet, so it was more of an introduction about what we do, why we’ve organised the Kings & Queens Book Tour, and to purchase the books to read ahead of the following events.

Some people enjoyed the first session so much, that they purchased tickets for the second session (4-7pm) organised by Lady Tamar of Kings & Queens United.

King Kevin Dorival talked about the 7 Queen Types, and TC Carrier did a very engaging presentation called ‘Law of Gender‘ where he explained the roles of the Masculine and Feminine Energies.  Watch this short clip where TC answers his question “What is most important, the Masculine or Feminine inner-g?” during ‘the battle of the sexes’:

The men reasoning what it means to be a King:

I was so honored to have the great historian Robin Walker join us at the Launch – he even bought my book! I did a course with him about 5 years ago, which really helped to build Self and Racial Esteem – we had a rich history BEFORE slavery!  His book ‘When We Ruled’ fitted in nice with the theme of the tour, and I was so chuffed that he took time out of his busy schedule to attend.  He runs Black History classes every Sunday afternoon, which are funded by his organization, if you’re interested in attending email him at historicalwalker@yahoo.com

Afterwards, Richie from BlackIceTV7 interviewed some of the attendees to get their feedback on the event which will be included in their footage:

DJ Supreme from Conscious radio also interviewed some of the attendees:

The tour ends on Sunday 8th Octoberdon’t miss the rest of the events!

Join us TOMORROW Wednesday 4th October from 5-7.30pm at Marcus Garvey Library, 1 Philip Lane N15 4JA for a session aimed at both youth and adults, based upon TC Carrier’s other book ‘Black Son Rising; Re-awakening the Warrior DNA in Black Men‘ (Marcus Garvey Library  is situated inside Tottenham Green Leisure Centre) This is a FREE event, just turn up!

You’ll get a FREE signed copy of my Self-help novel ‘Journey of a Sister‘ when you book your ticket for the last day of the tour at Brixton Library on Sunday 8th Oct 4-7pm! This is the culmination of the whole tour, where we will recap on everything we’ve learned during the week, how we can move forward to building empires together, and building sustainable Black relationships! Come and join in the discussion “How do we reclaim our thrones?” (our rightful position in society)  NOT TO BE MISSED! Tickets are £8 in advance (£10 on the door)

I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to all the people who have helped and are helping to make this vision a reality, and especially to Mr Terry Riggs of Nu Beginnings, Richie of BlackIceTV7, Debrose of Natural November, Tamar of Kings & Queens United, Andrew of Blacklinks Global, bro Dougie of SLR Radio, Clive Hewitt (photographer) and to all who attended and plan to attend the rest of the tour!

Join us at the Launch of the Kings & Queens Book Tour! (Sun 1st Oct)

The Kings and Queens Book Tour starts next week! Come and learn the secret science to Black Male & Female Relationships!  Have you got your tickets? They’re going fast!

I’ve invited TC Carrier, author of ‘The Secret Science of Black Male & Female Sex‘ and King Kevin Dorival, author of ‘7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire‘ to join me from the USA, to share some important information that will help us elevate ourselves as a commUNITY, and regain our rightful positions in society!  This is no joke…

As I was writing the First Edition of my Self-help novel (then titled ‘Single, Spiritual…AND Sexual!) I woke up in the middle of the night and ‘auto-wrote’ the scene where Suzanne and Charles performed their first sex ritual.  By the following year they went on to build a multi-million pound business!  46,000 words of my novel were ‘channelled’, which meant I didn’t have to think about what I was writing, it came through me rather than from me.  When I published the e-book on Amazon, I did a search for it (as you do when you’re a new author!) and TC’s book ‘The Secret Science of Black Male & Female Sex‘ came up beside it as ‘recommended reading’.

I was curious so I ordered it, and lo and behold, his book explained the whole science behind what I thought I’d made up!  It took me a few years to get in contact with TC, and I was ecstatic when he agreed to come to London to share this knowledge with our commUNITY!

King Kevin Dorival contacted me last year and asked me to write the Foreword for his book ‘7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire‘.

I was happy to, as the King/Queen theme run heavily through my books, art and poetry!

(My painting ‘My King’ features in Year Five of my Revised book, now titled ‘Journey of a Sister’)

King Kevin had also referenced TC’s book in his, so I invited them both together, to join me in getting this important information into our commUNITY, is this is the key to us elevating our relationships and re-building our empires! Our ancestors built great civilizations by harnessing their sexual energy and using it to create.  In order to regain our rightful positions in this world, me must get back to practicing these ancient rituals!

I now truly believe that this is the reason why there’s a covert operation to keep the Black Man and Woman apart – because we’re powerful together, when we’re operating on a high level of consciousness! (this relates to the crown chakra, hence the title of the tour).

If you have a religious mindset, the very word ‘ritual’ might seem off-putting, but as I explained in my novel, the word ritual is found in spiritual!

In today’s society, the sexual act has been degraded, and we’ve been taught to dissipate our sexual energy instead of harnessing it.  Most people only operate from their lower, animalistic nature when having sex.  But did you know that there’s ‘another level’ you can reach in your sex and spirituality?  This is what you will learn when you join us on the Kings and Queens Book Tour.  On Thursday 5th October from 6-9pm TC Carrier will be doing a Lecture on ‘The Secret Science of Black Male & Female Sex‘ – don’t miss it!

On the same day from 2-5pm, King Kevin Dorival will be running a workshop to help you identify what type of Queen you are, so you can attract the right type of King.  Each of these workshops are only £15, attend both for just £25.00 (use the same link to book individual workshops).

Join us at the Launch on Sunday 1st October!

Meet the Authors at the Launch of the Kings & Queens Book Tour on Sunday 1st October, 1-3pm at 146 Queen Victoria Street, Blackfriars.  I will be interviewing TC and King Kevin, and this will also be your opportunity to ask us any questions!  The topic will be “What does it mean to be a King or a Queen?” reserve your  ticket now – limited seating, all we ask for is a donation towards the tour to cover travel, accommodation, and meals etc.  Myself, TC and Kevin have so far used our own resources to put this tour together, any amount whether small or large will be greatly appreciated!  From 4-7pm both authors will be on the Panel at the Kings & Queens United event (same venue), your ticket price includes a meal, to book yours >> click on this link <<

TC and King Kevin will sign your books at the Launch, order them online if possible so you can read them ahead of the tour.  You can order your signed paperback of ‘Journey of a Sister’ below, with FREE postage in the UK:

Review: African American Research Library Book Festival

I just got back from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where I took part in the African American Research Library & Cultural Centre‘s Annual Book Festival, courtesy of King Kevin Dorival!

The building itself was amazing; the equivalent of The Marcus Garvey Library, The Black Cultural Archives, and the Bernie Grant Arts Centre all under one roof! The library also has a state-of-the-art Theatre, and Black History Museum.
On Friday we were taken on a tour of the building by Essy, the Director. We were able to see some of the African artefacts they had accumulated, including some which belonged to the founder of the library, Samuel F. Morrison.
I also got to interview Samuel F. Morrison in the flesh! He is the visionary behind the library, who raised the $60,000,000 needed to build it. It was great to see that they had created a legacy for him while he’s still alive!
Later that evening I was one of the authors who featured in ‘An Evening with the Literary Stars‘, an exclusive evening where we got to pitch our books to the audience for 5 minutes each.
The following day was open to the public; I was on the Romance Panel with two other authors:
We had a lively discussion and afterwards, audience participants purchased their signed copies of our books!  (King Kevin Dorival was also on the panel).

The Kings are Coming!

King Kevin will be coming to London for the Kings & Queens Book Tour taking place on the 1-8th October.  We will be focusing on his newly-released book ‘7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire‘ (I wrote the Foreword).
King Kevin has informed me that  he’ll be on the look-out for his Queen, so ladies, read his book!

I managed to interview King Kevin before I came back to London:

TC Carrier, author of ‘The Secret Science of Black Male and Female Sex‘ is also coming to London to take part in the Kings & Queens Book Tour!
The reason I’ve invited  both King Kevin and TC Carrier to London to take part in the Kings & Queens Book Tour is because both their books compliment my Self-help romance novel ‘Journey of a Sister‘.  All 3 books will really help you on your own journey of Self-discovery!
Tickets will also go on sale shortly, and you’re advised to get yours early – it’s going to be SOLD OUT! (don’t say you weren’t warned!)
The tour will include Book Signing & Discussion Events as well as Workshops; ‘What Type of Queen Are You?‘ ‘What is Spiritual Sex?‘ Come and find out!  Order your books and read them in advance, so you can join in the discussions!

First Video in my series: Why the Black Woman MUST Heal! (HAIR)

I recently became clear about my Purpose: It’s to ‘Help the Black Woman to Heal’ just as I am; mentally, emotionally, and spiritually (including from ancestral trauma). We MUST heal in order to truly love ourselves. And Self Love is the ROOT CAUSE of many of our issues, especially our relationships!  It’s important for us to heal for a number of reasons; we are the core of our commUNITY. We are the ones raising the next generation. We are the core of the family. If we don’t re-build our family structures by re-building our relationships with our MEN, we cannot re-build our commUNITY!

This is the first video in my series ‘Why the Black Woman MUST Heal!’ which is all about our HAIR:

When we as Black Women ‘RE-MEMBER’ Who We Are, we will naturally develop Self Love, which doesn’t rely on outward appearance, it comes from deep within.

If you would like to join me on this journey of Self-healing and Self-discovery, start by reading my Self-help novel ‘Journey of a Sister’ from Year One FREE!  In it  shared everything I discovered after asking God for “the Truth!” in a beautiful, Black Love story format!

If you identify with the topics raised in it, consider joining me on our Self-healing journey, by coming on The Self Love Retreat in the Gambia in November or December (subsequent dates may follow). I’ve organized for us to spend 7 days at the Healthy Ways Foundation, with authors of the cookbook ‘Spicy Tasty Vegan Cuisine’, Dr Joe Gregory and Naasira Angeela Bledsoe. Not only are they our hosts, they have a wealth of experience regarding relationships, healthy eating, and much more to share with us! There are only 6 places on each Retreat, to ensure individual attention. (You can choose either from the first two weeks in November, or the first two weeks in December, 12 women each month)

If you would like more information about The Self Love Retreat come to the Taster Workshop on Saturday 1st July being held at Intuition House, Borough, South London (right next to Borough High Street station); the cost is just £25 which includes a FREE copy of my Self-help novel ‘Journey of a Sister’, and if you decide to sign upon the day, the cost of the workshop (£25) will be deducted from the price of the Retreat! (£100 deposit will secure your place, the Retreat is priced at an introductory price of just £599!).

If you are unable to attend the Taster Workshop on July 1st but are interested in joining me on The Self Love Retreat, email me: cezanne@journeyofasister.com, and I will set up a Skype call to share the information!

All the topics covered in my video series ‘Why the Black Woman MUST Heal‘ are raised in my Self-help novel.  Order your personally signed paperback for just £9.99 with FREE delivery in the UK!

If you’re looking for an alternative to Christmas (which is more about consumerism than the birth of Christ!) why not celebrate Kwanzaa with us this year?

What is Kwanzaa?

Kwanzaa - African American Holiday

Kwanzaa is originally an African-American concept which celebrates 7 Core Principles (Nguzo Saba), represented by a different candle each day.  It begins on the 26th of December, and ends of the 1st of January, culminating in a feast and an exchange of gifts. Each of the seven days of Kwanzaa honors a different Principle; these Principles are  key to building strong, productive African families and communities.

Kwanzaa is based on year-end harvest festivals that have taken place throughout Africa for thousands of years. The name comes from the Swahili phrase “matunda ya kwanza,” which means “first fruits of the harvest.” The Founder of Kwanzaa, Dr. Maulana “Ron” Karenga chose a phrase from Swahili because the language is used by various peoples throughout Africa.

Items Used During Kwanzaa:

mkeka
Meaning: mat
Action: The symbols of Kwanzaa are arranged on the mkeka, which may be made of straw or African cloth. It symbolizes the foundation upon which communities are built.

kinara
Meaning: the candleholder, which holds seven candles
Action: It symbolizes stalks of corn that branch off to form new stalks, much as the human family is created.

mishumaa saba
Meaning: the seven candles that represent the seven principles
Action: A different candle is lit each day. Three candles on the left are green; three on the right are red; and the middle candle is black.

kikombe cha umoja
Meaning: the unity cup
Action: Celebrants drink from a wooden cup in honor of their African ancestors. Before drinking, each person says “harambee,” or “let’s pull together.”

mazao
Meaning: fruits, nuts, and vegetables
Action: These remind celebrants of the harvest fruits that nourished the people of Africa.

vibunzi (plural, muhindi)
Meaning: ear of corn
Action: Traditionally, one ear of corn is placed on the mkeka for each child present.

zawadi
Meaning: gifts
Action: Traditionally, educational and cultural gifts are given on January 1, the last day of Kwanzaa.

Kwanzaa flag

The Kwanzaa flag consists of three blocks, one in each of these colors. Green is for the fertile land of Africa; black is for the color of the people; and red is the for the blood that is shed in the struggle for freedom.

Colours

The colors of Kwanzaa are red, black and green. The Kwanzaa flag consists of three blocks, one in each of these colors. Three of the seven candles are red, three are green and one is black.

During the celebrations, candles are lit and libations are poured from a wooden cup. A libation is the name given to a ritual pouring of water or white rum as an offering to our ancestors.

A Kwanzaa ceremony often includes performances of music and drumming, a reflection on the Pan-African colors of red, green and black and a discussion of some aspect of African history. Women often wear brightly colored traditional clothing. Some cultural organizations hold special exhibitions of African influenced art and market stalls during the period of the celebrations.

Greeting

During Kwanzaa, celebrants greet each other with “Habari gani,” or “What’s the news?” The 7 Principles of Kwanzaa form the answers.
