The Mboka Literary Festival, Gambia

I’ve been in the Gambia since November the 30th, where I facilitated the first Self Love Retreat; I’ve also been editing a book on African Wholistic Health, writing, and doing book signings!

I had the pleasure of taking part in The Mboka Literary Festival (even though I wasn’t on their program) where I had a stand at their Books, Art and Crafts fair, held at the Senegambia Hotel.  I met a lovely siSTAR there who was quick in capturing ‘the moment’:

(the voice behind the camera – and brothas, she’s single!)

I didn’t tell her to say I was a famous author but I receive it lol.  I also had the opportunity to talk with some youth about my book, and to performed my poem ‘Who Am I?‘ which I wrote back in 2005 when I first discovered that my roots were in Africa:

The festival has been a wonderful bonus to my work-holiday, and to top it off, I also had the pleasure of meeting the legendary dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson, who was the main act on the bill for the Festival – I saw him perform live at the Ebunjan Theatre, only his poetry wasn’t accompanied by the dub music which he’s famous for!

I’m grateful to be avoiding the cold, English weather, but I’m missing my 3 ‘suns’, and would have loved for them to been able to join me over the new year period – I’m working towards them being able to join me anywhere I am in the world!  This is my process of Self-actualization (creating my life on my own terms).  While here, I’ve been inspired to write my first speech on the topic! It’s called ‘Use Your Subconscious Mind to Create the Life YOU Choose’, which I’m aiming to have finished, memorized and recorded before the next Self Love Retreat is due to start next month!  My universe has supported me by introducing me to a videographer (a UK brother who’s been living in the Gambia for the last 12 years),  While writing the speech I was inspired to create a video for my poem ‘Fertile Soil’ which happens to support what my speech is all about; it explains how your subconscious mind is the fertile soil into which your thought-seeds are planted, and is illustrated by two of my paintings:

My books are being well received here in the Gambia, especially as there’s so many UK peeps living here!

Zora (loctitian, on the right) posted this about Journey of a Sister on her Facebook page:

“Purchase this book to all strong woman with a substance in life! Have you ever read a bk dat you jus dont want to finish read cause it sweet e sweet e sweet dats me rite now plze try get this book now i got my bk here but you can get it online !! Dat a one me nuhh”

Review of the Big Launch, Join us for the rest of the Tour!

If you missed the Big Launch of the Kings & Queens Book Tour, you really missed out!

I explained why I had invited TC Carrier, author of ‘The Secret Science of Black Male & Female Sex‘ and King Kevin Dorival, author of ‘7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire‘ over from the USA to join me on this tour, and how our books compliment each other’s.

In the first session (1-3pm) myself, TC Carrier and Kevin Dorival answered questions from the audience; not many people had read our books yet, so it was more of an introduction about what we do, why we’ve organised the Kings & Queens Book Tour, and to purchase the books to read ahead of the following events.

Some people enjoyed the first session so much, that they purchased tickets for the second session (4-7pm) organised by Lady Tamar of Kings & Queens United.

King Kevin Dorival talked about the 7 Queen Types, and TC Carrier did a very engaging presentation called ‘Law of Gender‘ where he explained the roles of the Masculine and Feminine Energies.  Watch this short clip where TC answers his question “What is most important, the Masculine or Feminine inner-g?” during ‘the battle of the sexes’:

The men reasoning what it means to be a King:

I was so honored to have the great historian Robin Walker join us at the Launch – he even bought my book! I did a course with him about 5 years ago, which really helped to build Self and Racial Esteem – we had a rich history BEFORE slavery!  His book ‘When We Ruled’ fitted in nice with the theme of the tour, and I was so chuffed that he took time out of his busy schedule to attend.  He runs Black History classes every Sunday afternoon, which are funded by his organization, if you’re interested in attending email him at historicalwalker@yahoo.com

Afterwards, Richie from BlackIceTV7 interviewed some of the attendees to get their feedback on the event which will be included in their footage:

DJ Supreme from Conscious radio also interviewed some of the attendees:

The tour ends on Sunday 8th Octoberdon’t miss the rest of the events!

Join us TOMORROW Wednesday 4th October from 5-7.30pm at Marcus Garvey Library, 1 Philip Lane N15 4JA for a session aimed at both youth and adults, based upon TC Carrier’s other book ‘Black Son Rising; Re-awakening the Warrior DNA in Black Men‘ (Marcus Garvey Library  is situated inside Tottenham Green Leisure Centre) This is a FREE event, just turn up!

You’ll get a FREE signed copy of my Self-help novel ‘Journey of a Sister‘ when you book your ticket for the last day of the tour at Brixton Library on Sunday 8th Oct 4-7pm! This is the culmination of the whole tour, where we will recap on everything we’ve learned during the week, how we can move forward to building empires together, and building sustainable Black relationships! Come and join in the discussion “How do we reclaim our thrones?” (our rightful position in society)  NOT TO BE MISSED! Tickets are £8 in advance (£10 on the door)

I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to all the people who have helped and are helping to make this vision a reality, and especially to Mr Terry Riggs of Nu Beginnings, Richie of BlackIceTV7, Debrose of Natural November, Tamar of Kings & Queens United, Andrew of Blacklinks Global, bro Dougie of SLR Radio, Clive Hewitt (photographer) and to all who attended and plan to attend the rest of the tour!

Journey of a Sister is the story of a young woman raised in the ‘faith’, who reaches a point where she begins to question what she was taught to believe.  She writes God a fearless letter, asking all the questions the church couldn’t answer, and ends it by asking for “the Truth!”.  Join Suzanne on her quest for “the Truth!” about sex before marriage, the creative power of her thoughts, her African ancestry, and the history of the religion she had been indoctrinated into!  It is a beautiful Black Love story that breaks some unspoken taboos in a thought-provoking yet enlightening way that thousands of women and men can relate to, download Years 1-11 FREE!

If you’re free, join me at Hackney Central Library, 1 Reading Lane E8 (opposite Hackney Empire) on Wednesday 6th September from 5.30-7.30pm to discuss the topics raised in the story.  You can also get the paperback which includes Years 12 & 13  for just £5.00 – HALF PRICE!  (To avoid queuing to get your book signed on the day, reserve it when you book your free ticket)

I will also be paving the way for two authors who will be joining me from the USA to take part in the Kings and Queens Book Tour from 1-8th October:

King Kevin Dorival is author of ‘7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire‘ (I wrote the Foreword), and TC Carrier is author of ‘The Secret Science of Black Male and Female Sex‘.  In Year 8 of ‘Journey of a Sister‘  I ‘channelled’ a scene where the couple performed their first sex ritual.  TC’s book explains the science behind these rituals!  It’s no wonder religion is used to suppress our sexual energy – this is where our power lies!  Our ancestors built great civilizations by harnessing their sexual energy, which is a powerful creative force.  Join us on the Kings & Queens Book Tour to explore how we can become great again, and rebuild our empires!

Review: African American Research Library Book Festival

I just got back from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where I took part in the African American Research Library & Cultural Centre‘s Annual Book Festival, courtesy of King Kevin Dorival!

The building itself was amazing; the equivalent of The Marcus Garvey Library, The Black Cultural Archives, and the Bernie Grant Arts Centre all under one roof! The library also has a state-of-the-art Theatre, and Black History Museum.
On Friday we were taken on a tour of the building by Essy, the Director. We were able to see some of the African artefacts they had accumulated, including some which belonged to the founder of the library, Samuel F. Morrison.
I also got to interview Samuel F. Morrison in the flesh! He is the visionary behind the library, who raised the $60,000,000 needed to build it. It was great to see that they had created a legacy for him while he’s still alive!
Later that evening I was one of the authors who featured in ‘An Evening with the Literary Stars‘, an exclusive evening where we got to pitch our books to the audience for 5 minutes each.
The following day was open to the public; I was on the Romance Panel with two other authors:
We had a lively discussion and afterwards, audience participants purchased their signed copies of our books!  (King Kevin Dorival was also on the panel).

The Kings are Coming!

King Kevin will be coming to London for the Kings & Queens Book Tour taking place on the 1-8th October.  We will be focusing on his newly-released book ‘7 Types of Queens, Kings Desire‘ (I wrote the Foreword).
King Kevin has informed me that  he’ll be on the look-out for his Queen, so ladies, read his book!

I managed to interview King Kevin before I came back to London:

TC Carrier, author of ‘The Secret Science of Black Male and Female Sex‘ is also coming to London to take part in the Kings & Queens Book Tour!
The reason I’ve invited  both King Kevin and TC Carrier to London to take part in the Kings & Queens Book Tour is because both their books compliment my Self-help romance novel ‘Journey of a Sister‘.  All 3 books will really help you on your own journey of Self-discovery!
Tickets will also go on sale shortly, and you’re advised to get yours early – it’s going to be SOLD OUT! (don’t say you weren’t warned!)
The tour will include Book Signing & Discussion Events as well as Workshops; ‘What Type of Queen Are You?‘ ‘What is Spiritual Sex?‘ Come and find out!  Order your books and read them in advance, so you can join in the discussions!

Rise of the Feminine Energy

After asking God for ‘the Truth!’ in 2007, I exited the church,  and spent 3 years in the black ‘conscious’ community.

My conclusion was that both organizations suppress the Feminine Energy, and until the woman gains her rightful position in both organizations,  attendees of both will never achieve their full potential.

Religion was used to blame the woman for the fall of humanity, which allowed the establishment to become male-dominated, and to make women subservient to men.  It is the male ego that is the cause of most of the problems in the world today!

The masculine and feminine energies are different from each other, yet are meant to compliment each other.  The man and woman should stand side by side, not one ruling over the other.  Women are naturally more intuitive and receptive to spiritual guidance.  Men have the drive and strength to push things forward.  Men must have vision, while womben help to give birth to those visions.  In ancient Kemet (renamed Egypt by the Europeans after they invaded), the Queens reigned alongside their Kings, who relied on the women for counsel before making decisions.  Women held high positions throughout all African society.

rule-side-by-side

When Africa was invaded and colonized, the first thing Europeans did was to destroy the family, which was the core of the commUNITY.  As the woman was the nucleus of the family, they focused on breaking down her psyche, by destroying the image of her male counterpart, and her own image.

So today, our relationships are suffering because our women have lost their status and identity.

In order to restore our relationships, and our commUNITY, the womban must take her rightful place: alongside the man, not behind him, or under him.   Look at what Barack Obama was able to achieve with Michelle alongside him!

My Self-help book ‘How to Get the Ring On Your Finger’ goes much deeper than the title.  It looks at how our past has affected the way we relate to each other today, and how even living in a Western society with Western ideals about relationships, is killing our family structures.

The subject of women looking like women but acting masculine came up time and time again, which even made me practice operating more in my Feminine Energy!  It will help you identify the root cause of your relationship issues so that you can heal, before seeking to attract your soulmate. By healing ourselves individually, we will heal our relationships, and ultimately our whole commUNITY.  You can download it FREE by subscribing, or if you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can borrow it from their lending library FREE!

TOMORROW (9th Feb): Book Signing & Discussion Event & Film Screening of ‘Southside with You’ (the story of Michelle and Barack Obama’s First Date!)

Join me at Harlesden Library from 5-7pm to discuss the topics raised in ‘How to Get the Ring On Your Finger’.  If you’re not able to make the Book Signing, you can meet me at Regent Street Cinema where I’ll be performing my poem ‘R U The One?’ before the film starts!  (my books will also be on sale)

Leaving a Legacy & December Events!

Last week was an event-full week!

On Saturday I attended the Legacy Gala where we championed people within our community who were making a positive impact and leaving a legacy (maybe I’ll be included next year!)  An old friend of mine, Marlon ‘Kush’ Palmer received an award for his contributions to showcasing Black films over the last 20 years (I designed his very first logo!).

marlon

I was interviewed at the Gala by ‘No Ordinary Woman’ Chat Show about my novel ‘Journey of a Sister’ – it was a coincidence that I’d only met the presenter Caz-Maz a few days earlier at the Mayor of Southwark’s Office! (That’s another story!)

legacy-interview

And last Thursday, I attended the Premier Screening of ‘Birth of a Nation’.  It wasn’t what I expected, as most of the film simply promoted white supremacy, and blatantly showed how the bible was used to subdue my ancestors and turn them docile.  I thought I was going to see an empowering film about revolution, but for me, ‘The Birth of a Nation’ was really about the birth of white supremacy through the enslavement of my ancestors.  As the descendant of an enslaved African, in my opinion, this film did nothing to empower me, and did nothing to honour my ancestors.

The bright side was, I had the opportunity to perform my poem “Who Am I?” before the film started.  It was befitting for me to perform this particular poem, because when I was in Ghana in November 2014, I performed this same poem in the dungeons where my ancestors were held in squalid conditions before being torn from their Motherland and shipped from Cape Coast (one of them was called ‘The Good Ship Jesus’).  I performed it right on the spot where my ancestors were held captive. It was also the 8th anniversary of my grandmothers passing:

It took me a year to write about my experiences in Ghana, but the last two chapters of my revised Self-help novel now titled ‘Journey of a Sister’ are based upon my experiences there. Get your paperback here (ships worldwide).

journey_pb3

Anyway, the following day (Friday), I went to see the play ‘So You Think I’m Crazy?’ at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre in Tottenham, North London.  Brilliant acting, which again portrayed the many ways my people are under psychological attack – this time through the Mental Health system.  Here’s a clip:

Religion, mainstream media, the food we eat, the music we listen to, and the (mis) education system, are some of the ways we battle psychological warfare.

Along my own Self-healing journey, I studied how the mind works in order to heal myself from depression and self-sabotage.  I learnt that our childhood programming determines how we think and act as adults.  As someone who was indoctrinated into a religion from a very young age, it took me years to un-indoctrinate myself.  On top of that, I’m still going through the process of re-programming my subconscious mind from the negative words and beatings I received as a child (that’s how deep it goes!)  I now know that the whippings my ancestors received were to break them down mentally in order to control them physically.  My parent’s generation were simply enacting their genetic coding of beating their children mercilessly, being emotionally detached from them, speaking negatively to them (e.g. “You are worthless/good for nothing/ugly…”), and taking them to church to be indoctrinated to be humble servants.  I am grateful for my upbringing, because that’s what has led me to the path I’m on today; to help my people ‘break free from mental slavery’.

Religion is a Mind Control tool.  When coupled with the slave mentality, it leaves our minds weak and susceptible to any suggestion made to them.  I seek to work with those who are raising the next generation, because as Frederick Douglas said, “It’s easier to raise strong children than to mend broken adults”. If you are committed to the process of healing, read my Self-help books!

After watching the film ‘Sankofa’ in 2010, I cried out to my ancestors and asked them what I could do to help my people heal.  The following morning, I played the guitar track and recorded ‘We Belong Together’ in my home studio (I recorded it first, then wrote it after – it was channeled!):

Since then I’ve also written ‘Journey of a Sister’ and ‘How to Get the Ring On Your Finger’ (which has contributions from over 30 brothers).  Both books look at how our PAST has affected the way we relate to each other TODAY. They will help you begin the process of Self-healing, and help you build Self Love, Love for your race, Self-dignity and Pride in who you are.

These are the legacies I am leaving for my commUNITY, read them!  You can download ‘How to Get the Ring On Your Finger’ FREE when you subscribe, or get both paperbacks signed by me from the Books page for only £14.99! (ships worldwide, Paypal will convert currency).

Book Launch Review!

What can I say?

We had a wonderful time at the Book Launch & Discussion of my revised Self-help book ‘How to Get the Ring On Your Finger‘ –  it wasn’t video’d (apart from the Facebook Live my eldest sun did with my phone!), but photographer George Eyo captured some of the event:

book-launch-6-11-16-1

Five of the brothers who contributed to the book were on the Panel, which worked really well in terms of helping to open up the dialogue.  It was good to see so many brothers in the audience too!

Feedback from Suraj Odekunle, Panel member:

“Great vibration at sister Cezanne’s book launch today. Good hearing the different perspectives from brothers & sisters within the Nubian community.
Great atmosphere just like how the Nubian community should be with more reasoning, no arguing nor being disrespectful.

Glad to be in that environment, instead of being in the ‘IN-CROWD’,  which makes me claustrophobic and anxious. lol

I learnt and listened more than I spoke.

It’s a blessing to witness the birth of Afrikan couples bonding together to make a spiritual commitment on spending the rest of their lives together. So today I put my 2pence in and expressed why I feel Afrikan tradition of bondage is important and why the Anglo-Saxon way of marriage isn’t meant for our people.”

me-reading-htg

I explained that I revised the book to take into consideration some of the things that had been discussed at previous Book Signing & Discussion Events, such as “Is the ‘white wedding’ a Black Thing?”

I also explained how I was inspired to introduce the ‘DIY Arranged Marriage‘, and how it has helped me avoid emotional heartbreak.  It involves doing the 6 Month Test; if you follow this process, you stand a much better chance of choosing the right partner before you give your heart, and of getting the ring on!  (If that’s your desire).  As a result of an email I got that morning, saying that the book should have ‘success stories’, I decided to invite other sisters and brothers to go through the processes set out in the book with me to attract our soul mates; if you are interested in taking part, from preparing to meet your soul mate, to attracting your soul mate, to the whole dating process, message me below – it’s FREE!

img_1635

Siayoum (second in row from left), one of the main contributors to the book, explained what ‘the ring’ symbolized, and while we embraced the symbol, we questioned whether the whole ceremony of signing the register was necessary, since it is a contract with the government, and nothing to do with a Spiritual Union!

“Amazing event from Sista Cezanne Taharqa about her book ‘How to Get the Ring On Your Finger‘.  I didn’t speak much as usual but I was fully immersed, listening and taking mental notes” ~ Toma Teme

“Thanks for a very warm and special event” ~ Paul Nelson, Author of Ego of a Grasshopper

“I thoroughly enjoyed your book launch and I am glad that I went. Although, I had mixed feelings in regards to your current book ‘How to Get The Ring On Your Finger’, and it being an all male panel. But I was glad to hear from their perspective than from it being all women.
Moreover, I explored the area of being single first and foremost is fundamentally important: to learn, to grow and love one’s self before going into a committed relationship.
Also, I’m currently reading your book, ‘Journey Of a Sister‘, which I am totally addicted to! I’m already at page 43 and can relate to the main character big time!
Thank you sis for all that you do. And keep rising in your power – Asè.”~ Camillea Johnson.

I met some of my Facebook friends for the first time, including Robbie Tate who bought both books:

“Thank You Cezanne for another fantastic event. It was very well attended, informative, healing, & it was also very nice to see so many Brothers in attendance, looking forward to reading the book, & the artwork that I won is absolutely beautiful…More power to you Sis” ~DebRose x (Founder of the Natural November National Tour see Events page for details)

“Excellent night! appreciated hearing the viewpoints of some of the brothers who contributed to “How to Get the Ring On Your Finger” albeit, some of their views may have been a bitter pill to swallow! The fact you gave us the opportunity to get together in one space discussing relationships etc. Is a credit to u. Give thanks continue to shine sis. Look forward to the next event. Peace & blessings” ~ Ashanti Michelle

The Aftermath: I will like to personally thank Cezanne for putting on such a magnificent night. It was such a pleasure becoming acquainted with so many Afro-Caribbean faces both old and new. The attendance was wonderful but even more so the contribution from the panel that included myself as well as the audience that in many ways became the panel. Their input was tremendous and the way you guys the audience welcomed my thoughts, clapped and smiled brought joy to a brothers heart so thank you for being so receptive. I would like to thank Cezanne once again for inviting me on this journey and giving me a seat on the panel. Hopefully we will have many more events like these because ‘How to get a ring on the finger’ is very important and not only are we talking a ring but commitment where in a generation that does or no longer exists. It’s about upbringing, it’s about changing a generational curse…”Author Darren Moxam

“Thank you for tonight Cezanne, had such an enjoyable and thought-provoking evening.  Great people, great vibes, great cause!  I really wish you all the best on your journey, you are really an inspiration to me and I’m sure many more.  Keep up the great work!  God
bless you x”  Siobhan

“OMD! If you missed this event, you simply missed out. Firstly let me thank Cezanne for her gracious talent and artwork you are truly a soul sis-Star and I was delighted to win your Blue Lotus artwork, it will take pride of place in my home. Darren Moxam you are magnetic and gifted with your words…in particular your response to my question about what a man looks for in a wife is enlightening. Yeah a man does want a best friend in his woman for sure.   I learned men want love just as much as a woman does and once they get it they will indeed cherish their soul mate you know the one they cannot live with out. I sat down and I listened to all the panel answered my question ‘what is the top three things you look for in a wife’? and their answers were precise and in chorus they are ultimately seeking a woman to understand them and love them unconditionally.  After tonight I am indeed ready for love and all that it brings I open my arms wide to receive it, not to squeeze it but to gently caress it and welcome love to my bosom. I am a woman strong, sexy and sassy, I vibrate and illuminate  After tonight my story is one of victory and strength in the stride of my thick thighs for I am the sum total made in the Creator’s image, perfect for the heart that is meant to love me, cherish and protect me. Tonight was not just about how to put a ring on your finger tonight was all about how to love you first. Be the love you want to receive” ~ Winsome Duncan
